1970年12月参加工作，在齐齐哈尔铁路局任学徒工；
1972年12月入伍，在兰州空军政治部电影队任放映员；
1974年2月在航空兵某师教练机中队任地勤机械员；
1975年12月在兰州空军政治部俱乐部任电影修理技工；
1978年9月任兰州空军政治创作组创作员；
1984年考入中国作协鲁迅文学院；
1986年插班转入北京大学中文系就读；
1988年毕业，获北大文学学士学位；
1988年9月兼任空政创作室干事，获授空军中校军衔；
1991年9月任空政创作室副主任；
1993年3月被总政高职评审委员会评定为全军首批「一级文学创作」职称；现为全军高职评审会评委。
1974年开始发表作品。著有中篇小说《雷，在峡谷中回响》、《远天的风》、《大冰河》、《末日之门》、《灵旗》，长篇报告文学《城市与老板的编年史》等。《大冰河》获全军第二届文艺奖，《灵旗》获全国第四届优秀中篇小说奖。除文
